A stylized narrative short film (lifeguard comedy) filmed in West Ashley and around Charleston, SC — a different register from client brand work, showcasing storytelling range.
Learn to Swim is a short-form, scripted comedy proof of concept. Casey and Tommy had worked together before on a Broadway production, and Boda came on as the full production team and director.
The goal was a 10-minute comedy short built as a proof of concept — something to take to festivals or use to pursue funding. The approach leaned on a performance background and improv comedy training to keep the story sharp and genuinely funny, not just technically well-shot.
A couple of real challenges — some team members' availability changed at the last minute, forcing a scramble, and the shoot ran in Charleston in the middle of summer, around 100° with heavy humidity, which made pace and stamina a real challenge on set.
Still in post-production, with a strong launch expected.
