3V Sigma USA: A Technical Video Series Built Inside a Real Chemical Lab

3V Sigma USA is part of a global chemical manufacturer with deep roots in specialty formulation chemistry, headquartered in Italy with a major operating presence in the United States and a significant customer base in Brazil. When their team decided to show the world how their products are actually made, they didn't want a polished corporate reel with stock lab footage and a narrator reading off a script. They wanted the real thing: their own scientists, their own process, filmed inside their actual research and development facility.

That's the project Boda Studios was brought in to build.

The Challenge: Making Chemistry Watchable

Technical video is a different animal than most corporate content. The subject matter is inherently complex: formulation chemistry doesn't lend itself to quick, punchy storytelling the way a product launch or an office culture video does. There's a real risk of ending up with something that's accurate but unwatchable, or watchable but too vague to be useful to the audience 3V Sigma actually needed to reach: technical buyers, distributors, and partners who understand the chemistry and want a real look at process, not a marketing gloss.

On top of that, 3V Sigma operates internationally. Their U.S. audience needed one thing. Their Brazilian market, one of the company's largest, needed the same content in Portuguese. Their home operations in Italy wanted an Italian version as well. And because the subject matter touched on proprietary formulation processes, everything had to clear internal compliance review before it could go anywhere near a public channel, which meant the production couldn't just be fast, it had to be exact.

The brief, in short: build a video library that's technically credible enough for chemists to respect, visually engaging enough for a general business audience to actually watch, cleared for compliance, and ready to run in three languages.

The Approach: Embed With the Real Team

Rather than building a script first and fitting the science around it, Boda's approach started with the people who actually do the work. The centerpiece of the series was Ellen, one of 3V Sigma's chemists, who became the on-camera guide through the formulation and technical process. She'd never done anything like this before. She turned out to be a natural — comfortable on camera, able to explain complex chemistry in a way that didn't talk down to the audience, and genuinely engaged with the process of making the videos.

That mattered more than any single production decision. A technical video series lives or dies on whether the subject matter expert on camera is believable. Ellen was.

The scope broke into two tiers:

Six long-form videos covering the core formulation, chemistry, and technical process: the “how it's actually made” backbone of the series, built to run on 3V Sigma's YouTube channel and serve as the anchor content for technical audiences who want the full explanation.

Fifteen to twenty short-form cutdowns pulled from that same footage, built for faster consumption and distribution: social-friendly, YouTube Shorts-friendly, and designed to funnel viewers back to the long-form pieces for anyone who wanted the deeper technical detail.

That two-tier structure is a pattern worth calling out for any manufacturer thinking about technical video: one deep asset that fully explains the process, and a library of short derivatives that extend its reach without diluting the technical accuracy of the source.

Production: Shooting Inside a Working R&D Lab

This wasn't a controlled studio environment. The team shot on location inside 3V Sigma's actual research and development lab, with actual production equipment running, actual chemists doing actual work, which meant building a production plan around a live facility rather than a set built for cameras.

That comes with real constraints. Lab lighting isn't built for video. Equipment can't always be moved. Safety protocols govern where a crew can stand and what can be filmed in detail. None of that is a footnote. It's the actual job of technical video production: getting a real, accurate, well-lit, well-composed shot inside an environment that was never designed to be filmed.

The production was shot in July, and from camera-off to final delivery took roughly six months. That timeline wasn't a scheduling problem. It was the compliance process. Every video, in every language, had to move through 3V Sigma's internal review before release, because the subject matter touched on proprietary formulation detail. Getting six long-form videos and up to twenty cutdowns through that process, in three languages, was as much a project management challenge as a production one.

Localization: Building for Three Markets at Once

The Portuguese and Italian versions weren't an afterthought bolted on at the end. They were part of the brief from the start, because 3V Sigma's Brazilian market is one of their largest, and their home operations in Italy wanted the content in-language as well.

Localizing a technical video series is not the same job as localizing a marketing video. Formulation and chemistry terminology has to be exact in every language, which means the localization process has to track closely with the same subject matter experts and internal reviewers who cleared the English version. Getting that right across three languages, for six long-form pieces plus their derivative cutdowns, is one of the more technically demanding parts of a project like this, and it's a capability a lot of production companies simply don't offer, because most video production isn't built to handle multilingual technical accuracy at this scale.

The Result

The series is live and running across 3V Sigma's YouTube channel, including their overseas markets, where the Portuguese and Italian versions are actively in use. The reaction from the internal team was, in a word, enthusiastic. Ellen in particular became something of an unofficial face for the project, and 3V Sigma has already floated additional projects for the future.

A formal client testimonial is still in progress — pulling one from a busy technical team at a global manufacturer takes time, and that's fine. The stronger signal is the one that already happened: a technical audience, watching real chemistry explained by a real chemist, in three languages, cleared through a genuine compliance process, and still asking for more.
